Rector's Welcome
For more than two centuries, Kazan State University has been a major centre of academic freedom, innovative education and internationalization: first in the Russian Empire, then the Soviet Union and finally in contemporary Russia. While facilitating connections between Russia and the European West, KSU has continuously worked toward the enlightenment of the many peoples of Eurasia, as well as the academic study of these peoples. KSU scholars have made notable contributions to the development of new fields in the world of science. According to a decree of the President of the Russian Federation, 'to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation', Kazan State University has been included in the State List of the most valuable objects of Russian cultural heritage.
Proud of our past, we have great aspirations for our future. During our difficult post-Soviet years, we have not only managed to maintain high standards in studies of the natural sciences and humanities, but we have also become leaders in the development of state-of-the-art research and education in social and cultural transformation.
KSU is a 'classical university,' which in the Russian context means adhering to the best traditions in all the main disciplines of higher learning. At the same time, we are a modern and dynamic institution, attracting the best representatives of the younger generation. We are actively reinvigorating our research and reorganizing curricula according to contemporary principles of innovation, internationalization and interdisciplinary integration.
In multicultural Tatarstan, we are eager to contribute to the studies of cultural diversity and sustainable cultural development. We look forward to meeting you in our beautiful city, and I hope that together we will learn to understand the world better, making it a better place and a source of inspiration for our children.
