There are few possibilities to reach Kazan:
1. There are regular flights from Frankfurt AM (Germany) to Kazan International Airport operated by Lufthansa. Tickets are rather expensive, however it is probably the simplest route. The timetable is given below (however we recommend to check for possible changes at Lufthansa's website http://www.lufthansa.com/online/portal/lh/ru/homepage?tl=1&l=en)
2. There is also a possibility to fly to Moscow and continue then to Kazan by domestic flights (Tatarstan Airlines, S7 and UTair). Moscow has got two main international Airports: Domodedovo (http://www.domodedovo.ru/index_en.asp) and Sheremetyevo ( http://www.sheremetyevo-airport.ru/?act=part&pid=512 - sorry, it is not very informative in English). Sheremetyevo airport has two terminals: Sheremetyevo-1 is used mainly for domestic flights, while Sheremetyevo-2 for the international connections. They are quite far from each other, and one has to travel by bus, minibus or taxi between them. At the arrival floor of Sheremetyevo-2 there is a official taxi desk, where you can pay for the taxi and will be guided to the car (price for transfer to Sheremetyevo-1 is 600 roubles [18 Euro]). You can use Aeroflot flights to Kazan through Moscow (arrive to Moscow, Sheremetyevo-2, then transfer to Sheremetyevo-1, then flight to Kazan by Tatarstan Airlines). There are two flights from Sheremetyevo-1 to Kazan: 9:30 and 20:30. There are 5 domestic flights per day to Kazan from Domodedovo airport (see http://www.domodedovo.ru/index_en.asp) by S7 airlines and Tatarstan Airlines. Some of international airlines have flights to Domodedovo airport (e.g. British Airways, Swiss Air et al. See the list at http://www.domodedovo.ru/en/main/timetablenew/airlines/?r=2). It is possible that your airline company has flights to Domodedovo airport, then you can book ticket not only to Moscow, but also to Kazan from your airline. However, as we know, such a ticket may be very expensive (we are not sure that it is a rule, so call to your airline office and check it!). There is also another way: you can buy a ticket to Moscow (Domodedovo airport) and purchase the ticket to Kazan using S7 airlines internet service (then you will collect the ticket at the check-in desk at Domodedovo). Today you can purchase S7 Moscow-Kazan-Moscow ticket for only 2035 roubles (about $80) for July. One way flight costs half of the price (about $40). See for details http://www.s7.ru/en/index.html and http://www.s7.ru/en/flight_info/faq.html. Please, look for the Tatarstan Airlines flights to Kazan from Domodedovo at the S7 airlines internet service. The flights timetable is as follows: 7:20, 9:30, 18:45, 21:35, 23:20. 3. You can use overnight train from Moscow to Kazan or/and back. Price of one way ticket is up to 6000 roubles (2 bed cabin) and 4000 roubles (4 bed cabin). Now there are two fast direct trains (departure from Moscow at 19:20 and 22:08, departure from Kazan at 21:50 and 22:40, duration of the journey is 10-12 hours). Note that the train timetable for summer is not yet available, but changes should not be significant. We think that it is more convenient to use train only on the way back to Moscow from Kazan, because on a way to Kazan you can miss the train if your flight will be delayed. If you need more information and advice about the travel please contact Moscow members of the Organizing Committee by email: eastmag@gmail.ru, eastmag@ksu.ru A shuttle bus service will be organized for participants arriving to Kazan International Airport by Lufthansa flights from Frankfurt and by the flights from Moscow airports as well as for participants arriving to Kazan Railway Station by overnight trains from Moscow.
