The conference will be held in Kazan State University,
the city Kazan.
Kazan is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan
(subject of the Russian Federation). The lands of Tatarstan are located in the European part of Russia on the banks of
the rivers Volga and Kama. Kazan is situated 800 kilometers to the
east of Moscow on the left bank of the Volga. The time zone is the same as in Moscow (i.e. London plus 3 hours).
The population of Kazan is 1.1 million citizens. Kazan is an ancient city, important historical and cultural centre.
The people of Kazan and environment have opportunity to get education in twelve universities, high education schools and
institutes. Scientific research is provided by Kazan Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences,
Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, universities and industry research institutes.
The city abounds in places of culture and arts. Museums, exhibition halls, theatres, the Philharmonic society, circuses,
concert halls and movie theatres offer a wide range of cultural and recreational programs.
Kazan State University is one of the oldest universities
of Russia. The Founding Charter and the Regulations of the University were signed by the Emperor Alexander I on November 5
(November 17 according to the new calendar), 1804.
By the Edict of the President of the Russian Federation signed on July 30, 1996, Kazan State University was included in
the list of cultural heritage of the Russian Federation. Here, a non-Euclidian geometry was originated by Prof. N. Lobachevsky (1826),
the chemical element Ruthenium was discovered by Prof. K. Claus (1844), a theory of organic compounds was developed by Prof. A. Butlerov (1861),
the electron paramagnetic resonance was discovered by Prof. E. Zavoisky in 1944. Among students of Kazan University were
a writer Lev Tolstoy, a composer Miliy Balakirev, a politician Vladimir Ul'yanov-Lenin. Among honored Professors are
naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, astronomer and physicist Dominique Arago, mathematician Karl Gauss, physicists Anatol
Abragam, Brebis Bleaney and Alex Muller.
